yeah so i woke up to a google alert for this at like 5:30 and im absolutely horrified. For those of you that havent heard, Israeli forces massacred Palestinian protesters yesterday in gaza. They were protesting the official relocation of the American Israeli embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.
58 were killed and 2700 were injured by shots or tear gas, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. France and Britain have “called for restraint” which is uh bullshit, and Turkey has withdrawn their ambassadors from both America and Israel, which is more like it. At this point, restraint isnt enough, and wont bring back the dead.
Netanyahu has responded by saying he is glad Trump had the courage to stick to his promises, and “What a glorious day for Israel… We are in Jerusalem and we are here to stay.”
The dead included 6 people (so far) under the age of 18. Palestinian protesters burned tires to throw off Israeli forces sight, which no doubt lessened the death toll.
Jerusalem is supposed to be shared territory according to the UN, and this move was very controversial on the part of America. It serves no diplomatic or strategic purpose except to make people mad for disagreements sake.
Also though, a lot of the American and Australian “stand with Palestine” movement are very antisemitic, and this cant be allowed to stand either. Whilst I abhor what the Israeli government has done here, i will not stand for “the kikes are back at it again” and countless other slurs.
People have also been suggesting that the Palestinians were rioting, which is cause for force. This is not true, and considering the international legitimacy of Israel, the size of their army, and the ongoing genocide of Palestinians, even if it were a riot the Israelis were wrong here.
soz this is so long im just really shocked that it went down like this
